Quebec government recognizes Champlain College Saint Lambert’s expertise in the recognition of acquired competencies.
Saint-Lambert, QC – February 26, 2013
Minister Pierre Duschene, Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie (MESRST) announced that Champlain College Saint-Lambert
is one of four colleges that will act as CERACs (centres d’expertise de reconnaissance des acquis et des competences. Translated as: Centre of Expertise for the Recognition of Acquired Competencies).
The CERACs are part of a new provincial initiative that aims to provide support and guidance, and develop a cohesive system among Quebec colleges that offer Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC)
services. The CERAC initiatives will take shape as a two year pilot project, during which all four chosen colleges will need to implement action plans in order to achieve this overall mandate.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with the other three CERAC
s to implement best practices for RAC services across the cégep system,” says Mark Wallace, Director of Continuing Education, Champlain College Saint-Lambert.
RAC services provide qualified adults with the opportunity to receive academic credits for skills and knowledge previously acquired. At a time when the availability of qualified human resources is shrinking and will continue to do so, RAC services can help bridge the gap in available skilled workers in support of the economic development of Québec.
“The key to this initiative is to include every college in the process,” says Kenneth Robertson, Director General, Champlain College. “Our measure of success will rely on our ability to implement highly innovative methods to assist Quebec cégeps establish efficient and effective RAC services to anyone who needs them.”
Quebec colleges are gaining headway as more of them implement RAC initiatives into their overall mandates. In 2009, Champlain College Saint-Lambert focused its efforts to further develop its RAC services. Since then it has seen considerable growth, and continues to develop its service options and outreach initiatives.
In 2012, Champlain College Saint-Lambert’s RAC services were recognized “for outstanding achievement in the field of prior learning assessment and qualification recognition,” by the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment.
