BJ90 SETUP SERVERS AND MANAGE ACCOUNTS AND RESOURCES USING MICROSOFT AND LINUX SERVERS
A. Description of the Evaluation
A server is a computer used in a network and which provides a service to a client. Servers usually have more processing power, memory and storage than client computers. The client is the computer that is not acting as the server, and is requesting information or a service from the server. Understanding what a server is involves an understanding of networks. When computers are connected in some physical (or wireless) manner and sharing services or information, this is referred to as a computer network. In a computer network, there are two or more participants where at least one of them is acting as a client and one is acting as the servers.
The skills sets of an Information Technology Support Specialist includes the installation, optimization and troubleshooting of many components of a large computer infrastructure such as domains, servers and shared information. Servers can play a large part in troubleshooting end users’ computer problems and their resolution.
This competency will be tested in five (5) distinct elements.
Each element must be achieved with a passing grade of ≥60%.
The evaluations will consist of installing, configuring and using administrative tools and services on Microsoft and Linux servers as well as creating and managing users and groups, files and folders permissions and sharing through written exams, scenarios and ‘hands-on’ laboratory exercises.
